About Architecture + the City

Co-presented by AIA San Francisco and the Center for Architecture + Design, the annual Architecture + the City (September 14-26) celebrates San Francisco's built environment through a variety of behind-the-scenes programs, walking tours, literature, exhibitions, and presentations. features our acclaimed San Francisco Living: Home Tours. Architecture + the City provides an excellent opportunity for all communities to experience architecture and design in a myriad of ways throughout the city.

How can San Francisco be a more connected city? How can we address its challenges of housing, climate change, economic and health equity? How do we design with connection in mind, that is human-centered and focuses on health, inclusivity and resilience.

Each year the festival explores and reveals the many layers of historic San Francisco and how architecture and design play a key role in the ever-changing urban landscape. Millions of people from around the world visit San Francisco — a 49 square-mile city with a population of more than 800,00 comprised of artists, architects, designers, storytellers, students,  and more  —  each having our own perspectives — all of us contributing to the illustrious narrative that makes our city so unique.

If you're a native San Franciscan or a long-time resident, we hope that you will experience the city with new eyes — and if you're a tourist passing through, we hope you'll feel at home and be part of the ongoing conversations that will help us all understand how we can seamlessly connect the present urban community to empower a more deliberate, livable San Francisco.
